Convince a group of 13 to 15 year olds to learn Shakespeare off by heart? We were delighted when the challenge to convert this tricky audience came up. The BBC helpfully warned us that 82% of our audience thought Shakepeare was boring…

Approach

Red Stone trod carefully. We knew the first whiff of a scholarly tome could turn off most teenagers. First, we created some iconic images inspired by Shakespearean themes – love, death and conflict. We then included some of Shakespeare’s best known lines. Immediately, the words felt relevant today.

Outcome

There’s a documentary following the finalists to be broadcast as part of BBC’s Shakespeare Season in 2012.
